Academic Spaceflight Initiative (ARIS)
Rocket, satellite, and robotics projects for students
The Academic Spaceflight Initiative of Switzerland (Akademische Raumfahrt Initiative Schweiz; ARIS) was founded by a group of enthusiastic students from ETH Zürich in August 2017. Since its founding, it has grown to include students from universities throughout the German-speaking region of Switzerland, including UZH, ETH, ZHAW, HSLU, and HSG. ARIS' project portfolio includes rockets, satellites, robotics, and other space related projects.
ARIS is a non-profit association that strives to supplement its members’ academic education with opportunities to apply their knowledge. Its goal is to provide a space where its members can push themselves to their intellectual limits and skills and learn together how to grow as individuals. ARIS creates an environment for learning by working on complex space systems.
The unique requirements and complexity of space systems challenge its members to go beyond simple academic examples and apply their skills to real engineering challenges, working together to achieve things individual members could unlikely achieve on their own. ARIS enables its members to attempt projects they may not be able to pursue in other settings, discover the fundamentals of working on complex systems, and work on state-of-the-art technology as well as its development processes.
