The Institute of Aerospace Medicine at the University of Zurich represents a unique academic center at the interface of medicine, aviation, and space sciences. Established in 2025, it is one of the few university institutes worldwide dedicated to advancing aerospace medicine as a research-intensive and clinically relevant discipline.

Building on the extensive expertise of Professor Oliver Ullrich  and his team, as well as the internationally recognized UZH Space Hub, the Institute brings together excellence in space life sciences, aviation medicine, and translational biomedical research to address challenges both in orbit and on Earth. Its research is deeply integrated into programs of the European Space Agency and NASA, supported by a broad Space Act Agreement with NASA and long-standing collaborations with the Swiss Air Force. By translating insights and innovations from aerospace medicine into novel medical solutions, the Institute contributes to the future of healthcare while supporting Switzerland's strategic role in the rapidly growing space economy. Serving as a core center of expertise and experience, the Institute acts as an academic bridge between the rapid developments in space and aviation and the medical sciences. It contributes to Switzerland's national responsibilities in the aerospace sector and, in close collaboration with the Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA) and the Aeromedical Institute of the Swiss Air Force (FAI), aims to position Switzerland as a strong international player and center of excellence in aerospace medicine.
